Corporate concentration, price-taking farmers, financial speculation on global commodity markets, the diversion of grain crops to biofuels – when the global food system is democratic, then we will have a chance of ending the scourge of hunger and malnutrition.

There is enough fresh produce to feed every single human being in the world two kilos every day – more than enough, but we dont because … ???
We don’t because you eat if you can pay to eat. If you can’t pay, you rely on handouts in the form of ‘food aid’ or charity relief. If that’s not available, you go hungry. Which is why food needs to be understood as a basic human right, not a market privilege.
